See contact information at the bottom of the email. -Anne Junior Specialist in the AES Available 1 September 2005 Mosquito Research Laboratory, University of California at Davis The advertised position is in the Mosquito Research Laboratory, which is in the Department of Entomology, College of Agriculture and Environmental Science, UC Davis. Research in this lab can be placed broadly into 3 categories: detailed studies on a mosquito's role in transmission of arthropod-borne viruses (arboviruses), the ecology and epidemiology of arboviral diseases, and the ecology of arboviruses in California. This position will emphasize research on the role of mosquitoes in virus transmission (it will not include work with viruses) and mosquito ecology. The successful candidate will (1) support lab activities carried out by the lab Director, graduate students, and post-doctoral fellows, and (2) carry out genetic analyses of mosquitoes. Specific duties will include DNA profiling, lab safety, chemical inventory, equipment inventory, administrative support, logistical support for overseas research projects, and ordering supplies and equipment for the lab. Experience with basic molecular biology is desirable. Willingness to learn and excite genetic techniques, learn and excite lab support activities, work extended hours as might be required during times of heavy workload, and outstanding interpersonal skills are essential.
