Health Education Opportunity!

The American Lung Association of the East Bay is seeking volunteers to work
on a local program funded by the Centers for Disease Control called, Oakland
Kicks Asthma.  Asthma disproportionately affects children of low-income
communities and is at epidemic levels in the East Bay.  The goal of Oakland
Kicks Asthma is to improve the quality of life for youth suffering from
asthma.  This volunteer opportunity is ideal for students interested in the
fields of public health, medicine, education, and social welfare.

*If selected, you will:

-Work with two or more elementary schools in Oakland

-Receive training on asthma basics and education strategies

-Take the lead on teaching a well-evaluated curriculum for students with
asthma, ages 8-11.  The curriculum consists of five, 40-45 minute sessions.

*Benefits:

-Make some extra money (pays $100 for each school taught)

-Build your resume

-Gain more leadership and communication skills

-Learn about an important health issue

-Schedule your own work hours

-Work with children in the community
