Undergraduate position in Bustamante's Lab A volunteer position for an undergraduate student (preferably in his/her senior year) is now available in Carlos Bustamante's lab. The student will be involved in experiments carried out with an Atomic Force Microscope (AFM). The student's main project will be the structural characterization of the prokaryotic transcription factor NtrC. Different oligometric forms of the protein, alone or bound to different DNA sequences, will be visualized via the AFM in an attempt to gain insight into the mechanism by which NtrC activates transcription in prokaryotes. The student will also be asked to use special AFM tips (nanotube tips) to try to improve imaging resolution. Some experience with protein and DNA would be a plus. The student will be expected to work 12 hours per week.
