Would you like to get into=20 such research? Do you simply have a keen interest in science? If so, you may want to=20 check out the first all-discipline encompassing Undergraduate Scientist Association at Berkeley. At present, there are a multitude of scientific discipline specific student groups at Cal, but no all-discipline encompassing student groups. That=EDs where the UGSA hopes to change things. We believe that a healthy and amicable scientific community is vital to bringing about important scientific advancements, and interdisciplinary research projects can often produce the most profound changes in the world. The UGSA would like to extend to you an invitation to join the scientific community of tomorrow, today. So what exactly is the UGSA all about? We aim to offer: -Social events to foster a cooperative and amicable community of undergraduate scientists, with the hope of stimulating the exchange of ideas, and possible interdisciplinary research projects in the future. -Guest speakers, seminars, and professor luncheons -Workshops that will provide useful information such as how to find/secure a lab position, as well as tips and methods for successful grad school/med school applications. -Networking/Mentoring programs that will connect underclassmen to established upperclassmen, and upperclassmen to Cal alumni in the scientific community. -Career fairs Additionally, the UGSA will produce a biannual undergraduate journal of science, titled Theory. This publication aims to: -Create a forum for undergraduate scientists to publish their work -Make available to the Berkeley community the most recent advances in a wide variety of scientific disciplines from labs in the bay area -Publish journalistic articles investigating the work of scientists around the bay area. -Publish opinion articles regarding science, ethics, and culture in the contemporary world. As we=EDre an up and coming organization/publication, the UGSA is looking to fill a variety of leadership positions, as well as staff positions for Theory. The application process will be clarified at the first general meeting. We invite you to participate in UC Berkeley's 2nd Annual Cal Relay for Life to raise even more! Cal Relay for Life is an American Cancer Society event which supports those who have been touched by cancer, remember those we have lost, and honor those who have survived. Relay For Life raises awareness of cancer in the community and money to support the programs and services of the American Cancer Society. We having a Relay Kickoff on Tuesday, Jan 24 from 7-8 pm in 220 Wheeler! This will be an information session for you to learn more about how you can create a team, volunteer, join a committee to organize the event, enroll in the DECAL, and get involved in the fight against cancer! Also, we will be offering the DECAL: MCB 98/198 All about Cancer: Relay for Life Thursdays 5-7 in 220 Wheeler. Here, you can learn more about the different aspects of cancer from speakers involved in cancer research, patient care, and policy-making AND you can get involved in organizing this amazing 24 hour event!
