The California Institute for Quantitative Biomedical Research (QB3) at UC Berkeley has partnered with local biotech companies -- Amgen, Carl Zeiss Meditec (ophthalmic diagnostic instrumentation company), Gilead, Genentech, Kosan, Plexxikon, and Sunesis to offer paid, full-time, hands-on research and development internships to UC Berkeley undergraduates. QB3 recruits top applicants in partnership with these companies, and we encourage you to apply! Deadline is February 10, 2006. Remember, you are required to submit two letters of recommendation. The first letter must be from a relevant UC Berkeley professor. You may submit a letter of recommendation from a Graduate Student Instructor (GSI) but it must be co-signed by a professor. The second letter may be from any individual, in or outside of the University, and might include a former employer or research advisor. Interns will: -spend summer 2006 (~10 weeks) learning lab techniques & contributing to state-of-the-art interdisciplinary research projects. -be paid, full-time employees with competitive salaries. -network with a variety of industry, QB3, & student researchers. -work one-on-one with mentors & utilize advanced laboratory facilities. -apply knowledge gained in courses & develop new technical, communication, time management, & leadership skills. -explore career options & refine direction for graduate studies. -acquire valuable, real-world research experience & training on a long-term project!
