2. 3 Internship positions

Dear Students and Professionals,

Do you desire to make a socially and environmentally conscious
impact? Are you ready to put your skills and talents to good use?
Now is your chance. The Mumbai Hygiene Education and Water Treatment
Project is now accepting applications for three internship positions:
*        Director of Technology Production
* Director of Education and Outreach
*       Director of Development
Please see the attached PDF for detailed descriptions of the
positions, instructions on how to apply, and for an abstract of the
project. Applications are due no later than February 21st via e-mail
to [EMAIL PROTECTED] Anyone, students (both undergraduate
and graduate) and professionals alike, is encouraged to apply. The
internships are through the Berkeley Chapter of the national,
non-profit, non-government Engineers for a Sustainable World (ESW).
ESW is dedicated to the empowerment of under-served communities
world-wide through the development of sustainable interventions that
address technology-related problems. Please visit
www.ce.berkeley.edu/~esw and www.esustainableworld.org for more
information.
The Project in Brief:
The 170,000 residents of the Behram Slum in Mumbai, India, suffer
from illness caused by consumption of sewage-contaminated drinking
water. In response to this, a multidisciplinary and multinational
team has been working in Berkeley and India for the past two years
developing and implementing a comprehensive education program and
low-cost, point-of-use water treatment systems. Our approach to this
project is unique and successful by encouraging Behrampada community
participation as much as possible, by developing a technology that is
environmentally, socially, and economically sustainable, by insisting
on the integration of the education with the filter technology, and
by slowly transitioning the project management to many levels of
Mumbain stakeholders. Work planned for this spring and summer
includes starting a profitable filter building business in
Behrampada, expanding the education program and starting a community
resource center, and developing an epidemiological study on the
effectiveness of the education and technology interventions.

We look forward to receiving your application. Please e-mail any inquiries to

[EMAIL PROTECTED] . Namaste!

Cheers,
Erin Inglish and Ashley Murray
and the Mumbai Project Team

5. Join MCBcDNA

**** --- Get involved, Join MCBcDNA ---****

Are you interested in being part of a community/club on campus and
helping out your fellow Biology students by organizing events that
are catered to them? If so, please take the time to visit the MCBcDNA
website, http://mcb.berkeley.edu/groups/mcbcdna/, and click on Join
and fill out our online application by 2/8/05, midnight. We hope to
hear from you soon.

As a current member of MCBcDNA and a junior, my experience in
this club has been rewarding. Not only do I get an opportunity to be
involved in planning events, such as Volunteer Night and Faculty
Student Dinners, but I also get to meet and know a good group of
people in this club. Most of the members in the club are on the
pre-med and graduate school path. As a freshmen at the time, I found
it helpful to talk with my fellow members, who were juniors and
seniors, and ask them about the GREs and the application process for
med school and grad school. Overall, being involved in an on campus
club is a great experience to grow as an individual and an
opportunity to share your ideas and work with others. I definitely
encourage you guys to fill out the application for this club and be a
part of the biology community at Berkeley.

If you have an questions or concerns, please feel free to email
me at [EMAIL PROTECTED] Also, if you need a little more time to
fill out the application, please contact as me as well. Also, you
don't have to be majoring in MCB to be in this club. We have some
individuals who are majoring in Bioengineering.

Cheers,
