SPRING - SUMMER POSITION
PERSONAL CARE ASSISTANT

Unique opportunity for pre-med, social welfare, public health,
special education, or divinity students. Learn therapeutic routines
and skilled nursing tasks that insure quality of life and community
integration for a male Berkeley resident, 37, significantly disabled
by childhood encephalitis.
Activities include the following tasks (WILL TRAIN):
o       tracheotomy care,
o       jejunostomy tube feedings,
o       computer-assisted lessons to promote problem-solving,
o       range of motion exercises, assisted walking, three-wheel bike,
o       self-help tasks: grooming, toileting and bathing,
o       assistance with leisure activities: electronic keyboard, etc.

Assistants must be physically sturdy enough to assist with wheelchair
transfers and walking. Ability to retain oral instructions,
punctuality, reliability, sense of humor and respect for individual
uniqueness required. CPA, First Aid training, and work/study
eligibility preferred.

Conditions: Position opens 2/20/2006, interviewing as of 2/19/2006
Work Schedule: Flexible, 15 - 20 hours/week during summer, 10 - 15
hours/wk during term, 6 months minimum commitment.
Pay Rate: $9.50 during one-month training, up to $14/hour ongoing
(depending on qualifications)
Location: Apartment residence is 2 blocks Northwest of U.C. Berkeley Campus.
