1.      Biotechnology Entrepreneurship Case Competition

-         Real World Startup Experience

-         Valuable Biotech Exposure

-         Interaction with Former Genentech Executives

Hana Biosciences, Inc., a South San Francisco based biopharmaceutical
company, is pleased to provide an opportunity for UC Berkeley students to
work together in teams to solve real world challenges faced by developmental
stage biotech companies.  This case competition gives students an
opportunity to learn about the biotech industry by working through a problem
that CEOs and executives face everyday: how to build their product
pipelines?

Students interested in careers in biotechnology, entrepreneurship,
consulting, finance, or scientific related fields will experience a
rewarding case study exercise.  Three finalist teams will be selected to
present before the executive management team of Hana Biosciences.
Participants are also eligible for $2,000 in cash prizes.

Competition Schedule

April 7th:  Case and instructions posted on website

April 18th: Registration for team closes at midnight (PST)

April 19th: Question and Answer with Hana Biosciences (Optional); 9 - 10 am
(PST); Conference Call

April 27th: Turn in an electronic copy of your completed case before
midnight (PST)

April 28th: Finalists will be announced via email

May 2nd: Final Presentations; 6 - 9 PM; Berkeley campus

2.      Minorities in Health Conference

A pre-HEALTH conference, entitled Minorities in Health: Fostering
Diversity, will be held at UC Berkeley on April 23, 2006.  The event
is sponsored by the Black Student Health Association (BSHA),
Chicanos/Latinos in Health Education (CHE), and Pilipino Association
for Health Careers (PAHC).  There will be workshops, including
dentistry, public health, medicine, nursing, and public health!  The

because the conference is capped at 200 people and workshops are
assigned on a first come basis!  And as a bonus: Kaplan and Princeton
are both donating prep-courses and there will be other great prizes

To all pre-Health majors,

Telebears Phase I is just around the corner.  Do you know which

to take to fulfill pre-Med requirements?

classmen who have taken the classes and have gone through it all.

4.      Job announcement - 2-3 Research Assistants

2-3 openings for position of research assistant. You would be
responsible
for assisting with a research study involving parent and children's
perceptions of the neighborhood they live in and physical activity in
children.  Main duties include phone recruitment of study participants
(parents and children aged 10-12 years), obtaining informed consent,
interviewing participants (both parents and children, over the phone and
in
person), assessing height and weight of children, and explaining use of
accelerometer (mechanical device for measuring physical activity).
Training
in Microsoft Access, survey methods, and human subjects protection
provided.


Qualifications: good communication/phone skills, personable,
detail-oriented, organized, ability to work independently, mature,
responsible, able to maintain confidentiality of participant
information.
Prefer experience with research including interviewing.  Experience
working
with parents and children helpful.  Social welfare or public health
major a
plus.   Must be eligible for work-study.  Will be based in Oakland at
Kaiser
office facilities.  Local travel may be required and will be reimbursed.
20-30 hours/week.  Start and end dates (somewhat flexible): May 1-August
31.
