Missed application deadlines, turned down, or disqualified for ìlack of experienceî? Donít even know where to begin? Letís be real here; getting into scientific research can be tough as an undergrad. Labs oftentimes want undergrads with prior laboratory experience, but prior laboratory experience is impossible without first having been accepted into a lab without experience. Getting past this vicious cycle can be a struggle. We at UGSA understand this. Thatís why weíre putting together our ìLast Chance Summer Opportunities Workshopî for you, the intrepid undergraduate scientist, looking to change the world through science, but needing that first foot in the door. Come check us out, where youíll find:
- Pre-med? Weíve got information regarding a large variety of volunteering opportunities in the Berkeley area that are feasible in conjunction with summer school; do ìdouble dutyî and get the most out of your summer! - ìHidden Gemsî- there are research internships available in northern and southern California that you may not have known existed; we do, and we want you to know about them too. - Laboratory apprenticeships with UCSF professors in the areas of leukemia research, stem cell regeneration of diseased organs, and biomedical applications of gene regulation; available exclusively through UGSA. - Information on how to find and secure a lab position for yourself independently from an undergraduate who successfully went through the process last summer. UGSA is dedicated to cultivating the scientific community of tomorrow, today. An important part of this goal is making available opportunities to prospective scientists who may not even realize that these opportunities exist. Come check out our Last Chance Summer Opportunities Workshop on Tuesday April 25th at 7 PM in 101 Moffitt!
