Research Project Administrator/ Research Assistant III The Department of Psychiatry at the University of California San Francisco is seeking a full time project administrator (Research Assistant III) to assist the Principal Investigator in day-to-day administrative and operational functions of three research projects funded by the American Cancer Society, the National Institute on Drug Abuse and the Tobacco-Related Disease Research Program. The research projects are smoking cessation clinical trials targeting special populations including Chinese American smokers, current and former smokers in chemical dependency treatment settings. * assist in conducting research outreach activities for subject recruitment * assess study eligibility for potential subjects * independently conduct structured interviews and administer questionnaires to assess smoking and substance use behaviors in both English and Chinese * provide brief advice related to smoking reduction and cessation to study participants guided by study intervention protocols * assist in conducting focus groups * assemble survey assessment packets * assist in the collection of biochemical specimens including breath, saliva and urine samples * manage research data collection systems, including subject tracking and data records maintenance * provide data processing management, including scanning, coding and cleaning data * maintain and order research supplies * perform preliminary data analyses under director supervision of the PI * conduct scientific literature searches * perform other duties as assigned. REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High school graduation and four years of related administrative experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience in health, education or social science-related fields; bilingual in English and Chinese - ability to speak Mandarin fluently; excellent communication and organizational skills; problem solving abilities; attention to detail; ability to set priorities and work independently; and knowledge of MS Office. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in health, education or social science- related fields; minimum of 2 years of research experience in social science-related areas or equivalent course work; fluency in both written and spoken Chinese (Mandarin and Cantonese); knowledge of MS Access and statistical programs such as SPSS or SAS and Teleform scanning software. SALARY RANGE: $35,000 to $42,000 per annum, depending on qualifications. This is full-time position with full fringe benefits. ANTICIPATED START DATE: May 15 , 2006 or Negotiable.
