The Winer Lab is currently looking for several motivated undergraduates to
assist with data collection and analysis.

The goal of our research is to understand brain function using the
auditory system as a model. A primary goal is to derive the structural
principles that underlie tonotopic and binaural processing in the auditory
midbrain, thalamus, and cerebral cortex. Connectional tracers and
transmitter-specific labeling methods can mark functional brain circuits.
Combined physiological-anatomical experiments then address functional
questions about cortical modular organization. We are currently interested
in acousticomotor relations in the midbrain, tectothalamic connectivity,
specificity in thalamocortical projections, and dual retrograde labeling
methodologies.

The ideal candidates need only demonstrate motivation, responsibility, and
potential for relatively quick learning. For the summer, the students
will spend the majority of their time plotting projections in the central
nervous system with the aid of a sophisticated microscope-computer
interface system. The students will also have the opportunity to witness
several surgical procedures and will gain experience in handling tissue
sections. After demonstrating promise and drive over the summer, the
students may be offered a more focused, independent research project for
the school year.

If interested, please send a resume (include relevant coursework and
grades) to [EMAIL PROTECTED] Prospective candidates will be
interviewed. If you have any further questions, please contact me at the
aforementioned address.
