**MCB-sponsored DeCal proposals for spring 2012 are due October 19, 2011.*
Planning to facilitate a MCB-sponsored DeCal course in spring 2012? All
required paperwork, including a meeting with the DeCal coordinator,
James Depelteau, are due to the UAO by 4pm on Wednesday, October 19,
2011. Please visit
the following link for more information.

*Advisor Codes for Tele-BEARS - needed by declared MCB majors*
Tele-BEARS for spring 2012 begins TODAY! You should be able to log onto
BearFacts to see your appointment time. We welcome you to come in now,
instead of waiting until just before your Tele-BEARS appointment, to get
your advisor code. Here are a couple of sites that will help in
developing your plan.

***~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~**
*Limit on Major Declarations, 17 October through 28 October*
We will limit major declarations in the UAO to 9-11, M-F, for the next
two weeks. You will still be able to go online at any time to declare,
but will not be able to come in and speak with a staff advisor outside
of those restricted hours. This is to ensure that students who are
coming in for their advisor codes, needed for Tele-BEARS, will not have
to wait while students are declaring.
*
* **~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~**
*Worth repeating: Bio 1A/1AL will not be offered summer 2012*
Good news and bad news! The good news is that we are building additional
lab space for Biology 1A, so we will be able to accommodate more
students in the course each semester. The bad news is that we will not
be able to teach Biology 1A/1AL over the summer 2012 because of the
construction! Please come into the UAO if you had planned to take Bio 1A
that summer and need to make alternative plans.
Biology 1B will taught in summer 2012, as usual.

*Biology Fellows Program spring 2012 application deadline, November 9*
The deadline for applications to the Biology Fellows Program (BFP) for
Spring semester 2012 is NOVEMBER 9, 2011 at 5:00 PM. BFP provides
financial support for students to do research in the biological sciences
for those whose financial need makes such work difficult on an unpaid
basis. Students also participate in seminars and professional
development workshops on biological research related topics, as well as
a student-run research symposium. The program seeks to increase the
number of students from underrepresented groups and women doing
research. However, all qualified UC Berkeley undergraduates are
encouraged to apply and will be considered equally. Visit
http://bsp.berkeley.edu/bfp.html for more details.
BFP is supported in part from a grant to U.C. Berkeley from the Howard
Hughes Medical Institute through the Undergraduate Science Education
Program and through the generous support of a U.C. Berkeley Alumna.
