*/***** */***Biology Fellows Program: Online applications are available now!

**The deadline for online applications to the Biology Fellows Program (BFP) for Spring 2013 Research is November 9th at 12 pm (noon).

BFP provides financial support ($1700) for students to do research in the biological sciences for those whose financial need makes such work difficult on an unpaid basis. Students also participate in seminars and professional development workshops on biological research related topics, as well as a student-run research symposium in May 2013. BFP scholars work 10 hours/week during the Spring semester. The program seeks to increase the number of students from underrepresented groups and women doing research. However, all qualified U.C. Berkeley undergraduates are encouraged to apply and will be considered equally. Visit http://bsp.berkeley.edu/bfp.html for the application and more details about BFP. For additional questions, check out our FAQ section on the website http://bsp.berkeley.edu/bfpfaq.html.

BFP is supported in part from a grant to U.C. Berkeley from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute through the Precollege and Undergraduate Science Education Program and through the generous support of a U.C. Berkeley Alumna. **

*/****/*********************International Service Learning (ISL @ Berkeley)'s Infosession********

********Pre-Health? Interested in volunteering abroad?

Then come out to International Service Learning (ISL @ Berkeley)'s Info session! We will be holding two info sessions. They will have the same information, so if you can't make one, come out to the other!

Wednesday, November 7, 2012, 7-8pm 243 DWINELLE
Thursday, November 8, 2012. 6-7 pm 87 EVANS

International Service Learning is a nonprofit organization that has sent thousands of students all over the world to help underserved communities. Our chapter will recruit students for individual medical/pharmacy, dental, and optometry trips. Before the trip, we will hold workshops to learn about diagnosis and treatment of common health problems, medical Spanish, and basic techniques relating to your field. We also plan to fundraise to help subsidize the cost of the trip and collect donated supplies and medications.

This is a really great experience for anyone interested in the health field, as you will gain hands-on experience while helping communities that lack healthcare and resources necessary for their basic well being. You will work closely with health professionals and will be able to interact directly with patients in diagnosis and treatment. It is open to all majors.
