If so, L&S 10 is the course for you. Here are the course requirements: Read the book over the summer (or early fall), and respond creatively. (We will provide some prompts before the semester begins.) Socially annotate excerpts from Turing's Cathedral. Attend two class meetings on Tuesday evenings from 5:00-6:30. The first will be on September 3 and the second on October 29. In order to pass the class you must attend both meetings, so make sure these Tuesday evenings are clear. [Breaking news: Professor Olga Holtz will be our featured lecturer on September 3!] Attend at least two On the Same Page events and submit a short response to each. Qualifying events include the keynote address by George Dyson on September 25, the faculty panels, or the Dialogues with Faculty. Play the Turing Test Tournament online game. On the Same Page is designed to welcome you into the intellectual community at Cal. We firmly believe that interacting with faculty--and with other students--around a topic of mutual interest is one of the best ways to ensure the quality of your education. All of the activities required for L&S 10 will be fun and interactive and educational. You will be glad you participated! This is a great way to earn a unit before midterms start, so you can focus on your other courses for the rest of the semester. And participating fully in On the Same Page will be so rewarding that you will continue to seek out enrichment opportunities throughout your undergraduate career. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* -- James S.
