*Summer Opportunity with Support for International Change (SIC)*

The organization: Support for International Change (SIC) is an
organization committed to limiting the impact of HIV/AIDS in underserved
communities in northern Tanzania.

The program: SIC offers an 8-week service-learning program in rural
villages in Tanzania. You will be immersed in your community and trained
to provide meaningful, evidence-based HIV prevention education. The program
provides in-depth and hands-on field learning experience for anyone
interested in gaining a deeper understanding of global health and
grassroots development. Together with Tanzanian university students, you
will have countless opportunities to connect with and learn from local
people and work to support SIC’s year-round community-based HIV
interventions including: mobile HIV testing, mobile care and treatment
centers, and social support for people living with HIV/AIDS.

Campaigns begin with an assessment of local HIV knowledge, attitude, and
behavior of the community. You will partner with community members and
teach HIV prevention education in local primary and secondary schools,
organize community teachings with the church, women’s groups, and support
groups. You will also work with SIC’s mobile voluntary counseling and
testing (VCT) staff to organize HIV testing and link people to our mobile
care and treatment centers. A local family will host you during your
campaign, giving you an even deeper connection with the community you are
serving.

Extra Travel Opportunities: You will have a break in the middle of the
program where you will be free to see the sights of Tanzania. Our staff
can help you plan a safari, a trip to Zanzibar, or even a two-day white
water rafting trip on the Nile!

Academic Credit: Many participants have worked with their departments to
earn internship or practicum credit for their participation. The
requirements and process are different for each school, and SIC staff is
happy to assist with letter of support, setting goals and objectives, and
other relevant paperwork. We suggest discussing this early with your
professor or advisor.

the human body. As Marion Diamond, former Cal anatomy professor said, "The
best way to learn something yourself is to teach it to someone else." For
more details, attend the first info session on 1/27 in 3070 VLSB, from 5-7
pm. If you have questions, contact Katherine Brito at
katherinebr...@berkeley.edu

Participants must have taken IB 131 and/ or IB 131L and passed with an A or
B.

*Complete a Year of Physics on a UC Education Abroad Summer Program!*

UC's Education Abroad Program has three special summer abroad programs. On
these eight-week summer programs you can complete a year of calculus-based
physics with labs, equivalent to Physics 8A & 8B, in order to fulfill major
requirements or prepare for graduate school in a health field. Glasgow
Summer School also offers 8-week courses in Human Anatomy and
Genetics. You need a 2.5 cumulative GPA at time of application to qualify.

The three programs, including links to program information, are:

University of Sussex International Summer School, England
<http://eap.ucop.edu/OurPrograms/United_Kingdom_England/Pages/intl_summer_school_sussex.aspx>

University of Glasgow International Summer School, Scotland

University College Dublin International Summer School, Ireland
<http://eap.ucop.edu/OurPrograms/ireland/Pages/science_engineering_summer_uc_dublin.aspx>

All the benefits of home—UC Berkeley credit, grades, and financial
aid—travel with you!

University of Sussex is near the resort city of Brighton, England, which is
only an hour by train from London. Glasgow is Scotland's second largest
city, and Dublin is the capital of the Republic of Ireland. All three
programs give students the opportunity to explore nearby world-class cities
and major European capitals. All have excellent connections to bus, train
