*Apply to be a PAID Health Leads Summer Fellow or Fall Advocate*

Apps due on Feb. 24, 2015 at 11:59pm

Health Leads envisions a healthcare system that addresses all patients'
basic resource needs as a standard part of quality care. We do this by
working with providers who can "prescribe" resources such as food, housing,
and heating assistance - just as they do medication - to their patients.
Our college student volunteers then connect patients with the community
services that fit these needs.Health Leads Bay Area currently operates at
Kaiser Permanente in Richmond and West County Health Center in San Pablo.

As a Health Leads Advocate, you'll be interacting with clients one-on-one
and following up with them to ensure that their basic resource needs are
met. You'll be working alongside fellow Advocates as well as a Program
Manager who will train and support you in this work throughout the
semester. You will also be contributing to our comprehensive database of
community resources. The Summer Fellow is a 20 hours/week paid opportunity
while Fall Advocates work 6-8 hours/week. Both positions are a 2-semester
commitment.

The application can be found at:
https://healthleadsusa.org/get-involved/volunteer/ and more information
about the position can be found here: healthleadsbayarea.weebly.com. Come
learn more about us at one of our info sessions:

Tuesday, Feb. 10, 7-8pm, location TBD

Thursday, Feb. 12, 7-8pm, location TBD

*Paid research intern positions available at Sangamo BioSciences, Inc.*

*Description*

Sangamo BioSciences, Inc. is focused on the research and development of
novel DNA-binding proteins for therapeutic gene regulation and
modification. The basis of our proprietary technology is a naturally
occurring class of transcription factors, zinc finger DNA-binding proteins
(ZFPs). ZFPs can be engineered to bind to novel sequences, and when
functionally linked to a nuclease domain create designed zinc finger
nucleases (ZFNs). ZFNs can be targeted to efficiently modify the human
genome in living cells at pre-determined locations to facilitate targeted
gene disruption, gene correction, or targeted gene addition (Urnov, et al.
2005, Nature 435:646; |Moehle, et al. 2007, PNAS 104:3055; |Perez, et al.
2008, Nat Biotechnol 25:778; |Shukla, et al. 2009, Nature 459:437; |Geurts,
et al. 2009, Science 325:433; |Goldberg, et al. 2010, Cell 140 :678; |Wood,

|Genovese, et al. 2014, Nature 510:235). Sangamo has ongoing clinical
trials to evaluate the safety and clinical effect of ZFN therapeutics for
the treatment of HIV/AIDS and b-thalassemia. Other therapeutic development
programs are focused on cancer, monogenic, and rare diseases, including
hemophilia, sickle cell disease, Hungtinton’s disease, and lysosomal
storage disorders. The work is exciting, fast-paced, and may ultimately
lead to effective treatments for these devastating diseases. For more
information about Sangamo, visit the company’s web site at www.sangamo.com.

We have paid research intern positions open in our gene modification and
gene regulation groups. If you are considering graduate study or a
professional career in medicine or bioscience, this position provides a
very valuable learning opportunity to work in a cutting edge field.

*Requirements*

We are looking for dedicated, hard-working, and dependable candidates who
are interested in working in a laboratory environment, designing and
carrying out experiments, and in learning how to do basic science research.
Previous hands-on experience would be beneficial, such as experience in
general molecular biology techniques, cloning, PCR, DNA isolation, and
tissue culture. Students with knowledge of molecular biology, genetics, or
immunology, especially those who are graduating this May and can provide at
least a 1-year time commitment, are highly encouraged to apply.

*Application*

Sangamo is an equal opportunity employer. Please send your application
(cover letter + Resume +Transcript; non-official transcript is OK; there is
no special form to fill) or any questions to jw...@sangamo.com.
