*mcbUSA Undergraduate Mentorship Program*

Interested in becoming a mentor or mentee for mcbUSA? Participate in the
mcbUSA Mentorship Program!

mcbUSA (the Molecular and Cell Biology Undergraduate Student Association)
is piloting a mentorship program to promote the growth of undergraduates
studying MCB at Cal. Our goal is to pair MCB underclassmen with
upperclassmen of all biology majors based on shared interests and goals.
The advice and insights of upperclassmen who have experienced Cal are
precious resources for underclassmen in such a large public university.

As a mcbUSA mentor, some things you might share with your mentee include
general course planning suggestions and general academic advice. **Mentors
also receive higher priority in connecting with our graduate student
mentors (one of which is a graduate student from the Schekman lab), which
is a subset of our undergraduate mentorship program.**

For potential undergraduate mentees:

Are you an MCB incoming freshman or sophomore looking for an upperclassman
mentor to guide you through your life at Cal? Come join our mcbUSA
Mentorship Program! Our program pairs underclassmen with upperclassmen to
facilitate networking within the biology community and is a great chance
for you to gain one-on-one personalized advice for success at Cal.

If you are interested in becoming a mcbUSA mentor/mentee, please fill out
this survey http://goo.gl/forms/1aO8V9KOKm by 11:59 pm April 7th, 2015 (it
should take no more than 5 minutes). You will need to be logged into your
Berkeley email to access the survey. Our mentor-mentor mash-up orientation
will be on Wednesday April 22nd 7-8 pm.

*2015 Faculty Research Lectures*

Dear Campus Community:

The Martin Meyerson Faculty Research Lectures, a 102 year old campus
tradition celebrating research excellence at UC Berkeley, will take place
on April 1 and April 8, 2015. The faculty honorees for this year are:

Montgomery Slatkin, Professor of Integrative Biology, will present
“Population Genetics of the Neanderthal Genome Project" on Wednesday April
1.

Jennifer Doudna, Professor of Chemistry, Biochemistry & Molecular Biology,

Every year since 1912, the Academic Senate has selected faculty members who
are exceptionally distinguished for their scholarly research to serve as
the Faculty Research Lecturers. These public events provide a unique
opportunity for the campus community to hear from the very people who are
transforming knowledge at Berkeley and in our world. Past participants
