UC Forestry Summer Field Program

*June 20, 2016 - August 12, 2016*
*Meadow Valley, CA*

In the beautiful mountains of the Plumas National Forest, the UC
Summer Forestry Field Camp provides students a unique opportunity to study
the biota, soils, and geology of the Feather River Country. Tall ponderosa
and sugar pines tower over the area, with white fir, Douglas-fir,
incense-cedar, and black oak intermixed in the dense forests. Several
streams pass through the camp. Housing is provided in cabins and
bunkhouses, with a central kitchen and dining facility with a large
campfire area in front. Easy hiking to waterfalls, lakes, and mountain
meadows is enjoyed by residents.

The overall goal of the Summer Field Program is to provide an introduction
to the scientific and professional dimensions of forest and wildland
resource management. Students participating in the program learn about
ecology, forest, range and wildlife management,
measurements, forest operations and products. At the end of the eight-week
program, students will have broad, working knowledge of concepts and
techniques used by wildland resource managers. The experience of studying
these topics in a field setting inevitably enriches students' subsequent
on-campus academic studies.

Specific objectives of the Summer Field Program include:

   - Provide experience with both the ecological and social aspects of
   wildland environments
   - Introduce students to professional practice in the various resource
   management fields
   - Introduce basic subject matter in ecology, measurement and inventory
   systems, and resource management
   - Teach field skills
   - Develop close student and student-faculty relationships

The summer curriculum also allows students to complete 4 of the five
courses required to earn a Forestry minor.

*MCB Newsletter Submission Guidelines*

Members of the campus community are invited to submit information about
their group, event, etc for the weekly email. Submissions should be under
150 words, include a link/contact email for additional information, and
should not include attachments.

The MCB Newsletter email will be sent to subscribers once each week
(Monday morning) during the academic year. You must email your submission
no later than 4 p.m. Friday to be considered for inclusion in the
following Monday's email. Send a plain text email with the event and
contact information to mcb...@berkeley.edu.

The MCB UAO reserves the sole right to determine the content for the email.

If you have any additional questions, feel free to contact
