General Information 

 

 

Job Description:       Respond to environment problems and implement resolution 
efforts across technology areas. Provides Unparalleled Customer Service in one 
of three focus areas:

 System Engineer/Analyst - Tools and ClearCase

  a.. Evaluate, customize, install, implement and maintain developer tools, 
according to Customer/system requirements. 
  b.. Plan rollout of tools to department. 
  c.. Provide technical support to users on the Rational tools including 
ClearCase and ClearQuest 
  d.. Provide input into defining standards of tool use as well as processes 
surrounding the tools. 
 Job Functions: Customer/Business Orientation

  a.. Focus on internal and external Customer requirements. 
  b.. Able to translate user requests into written actionable requirements. 
  c.. Develop understanding of business process being supported by assigned 
system(s). 
  d.. Strong written and verbal communication skills 
  e.. Work with the Purchasing department on software purchases and license 
renewals. 
 Project Management

  a.. Create and manage project schedules for major efforts. 
  b.. Support the organization's project management policy, practice and 
methodology. 
  c.. Provide timely and accurate progress information to project status 
reports 
  d.. Must have familiarity with the basic PC software utilized to perform 
their daily duties, i.e. Word, Excel, Visio, etc. 
  e.. Must have good experience in project management and vendor relations. 
  f.. Must have excellent written and verbal skills. 
 Problem Solving

  a.. Analyze and resolve problems of simple to medium complexity. 
  b.. Under supervision, research and recommend alternative actions for problem 
resolution. 
 Engineering

  a.. Assist in installation, implementation, customer support and maintenance 
of developer. 
  b.. Assist in evaluating and recommending emerging technologies 
  c.. Assist project team/business Customers in evaluating, developing, 
implementing and supporting system architecture components. 
  d.. Intermediate knowledge of hardware components, operation systems and 
networking issues. 
  e.. Intermediate background and some practical experience with hardware and 
operation system technologies. 
  f.. Knowledge and application of patch and upgrade procedures for hardware 
and operating systems 
  g.. Familiarity with Open Source software research and evaluation. 
  h.. Strong ClearCase knowledge with experience supporting UCM projects 
 Testing/Deliverable Quality

  a.. Participate in testing of software tool packages. 
 Production Support

  a.. Will be required to carry / respond promptly to an on-call pager on a 
rotating basis with other System Engineers. 
  b.. Responsible for immediate response to development tool problems and 
ClearCase/ClearQuest user issues. 
  c.. Needs a basic understanding of root cause analysis procedures. 
  d.. Provide technical problem resolution for less complex problems without 
assistance. 
  e.. Actively monitor approved tools for upgrade potential; actively monitor 
open source technologies as alternatives to purchased products. 
  f.. Financial Accountability: Assists in preparation of budgetary plans for 
project proposals. 
 Education: AAS, Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, and / or 
equivalent formal training or work experience.

 Experience: Generally has 3-5 years (or equivalent knowledge base) work 
experience in Systems Engineering.

  a.. Learning: Participates, and assists. 
  b.. Completes tasks under direction. 
  c.. Tasks are assigned and consequences of error carry small risk to the 
organization. 
 Core Knowledge

  a.. Good knowledge of key system engineering. 
  b.. Good knowledge of technical / business environment

  b.. Ability, within specific technology areas and under supervision, to 
perform basic troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, solution development, and 
implementation.

complexity. 
  d.. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-based, Customer service 
oriented environment. 
  e.. Excellent partnering, negotiation and communication skills. 
  f.. Able to create and manage project timeline.
