If someone is 100% on the app server, but poor on their Unix core skills, then they don't work out for us. We do a lot of 3rd & 4th level support on the team, so experience in break/fix, debugging & troubleshooting are more important skills than experience in installing & deploying. A background in doing that level of work and related scripting/admin skills gets a highlighter from us. Primary duties involve middleware engineering, code deployments, middleware patching, troubleshooting application issues, and load testing, primarily on Websphere SUSE Linux with additional AIX systems. Both non-production and production support skills are required for issue determination and resolution, as well as assistance with performance testing and tuning.
