In light of the various discussions of educational gaming that took place at last week's MCN conference, I thought those interested would like to know about the following new publication from the American Library Association:
Gaming & Libraries: Intersection of Services Library and Technology Reports by Jenny Levine Item Number: TS4205 Vol. 42 Iss. 5 "Jenny is a keen advocate for gaming services and libraries, as she is a gamer and has witnessed, through personal observation and study, how gaming services can help gamers and members of younger generations feel connected to the library. As noted in this report, those who have played video games, as well as the more dedicated "gamers," comprise a vast number of individuals under the age of thirty-ive. They will, as time goes on, increasingly be the ones deciding on library funding as taxpayers. "Gaming," Jenny concludes, "provides a wealth of service intersections for libraries today and for the libraries of the future. And that future is all about opportunities and weaving together threads, both old and new."" -- Diane M.
