Speaking for NMNH: 1) Yes, the raw image file is either converted to DNG prior to entry into the system, or directly created in DNG format. Our photographers are focusing new equipment purchases on cameras that natively support DNG.
2) We keep both the DNG and a TIFF. The DNG for obvious reasons, the TIFF since the photographer would have made important decisions about white balance, color correction, etc. that we want to preserve. Additionally, it's far easier and faster to create derivatives from a TIFF. -Rebecca Snyder, NMNH Informatics -----Original Message----- From: mcn-l-bounces at mcn.edu [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Tony Gill Sent: Wednesday, January 09, 2008 12:29 PM To: mcn-l at mcn.edu; Digitool Discussion List Subject: Re: [MCN-L] Archiving Adobe DNG files? Hello, A couple of questions for any institutions with active image digitization programs: 1. Are you archiving any images in Adobe DNG format? 2. If so, have the DNG files replaced TIFF files as the primary archival format, or are they an additional archival format? Please respond either on or off list, and I will summarize any responses in a week or so.
