MCN CAL SIG Summer Meeting Thursday, June 7, 2007

The Convergence of the Arts and Sciences

The California Special Interest Group (CAL SIG) of the Museum Computer Network 
is planning a summer meeting in which members can explore the convergence of 
the arts and the sciences in both museums and educational contexts. A tour of 
Orange County's Discovery Science Center will be combined with tours of the 
Beall Center for Art + Technology and the Maya Lin Plaza at UC Irvine by 
Eleanore Stewart, Director. Robert Nideffer, a Studio Art and Computer Science 
faculty member, will demonstrate and discuss how dynamic, interactive, and 
immersive computer game technology may be used for educational purposes in 
museums, in particularly UCI's partnership with the Discovery Science Center on 
the development of DinoQuest.

The Director of the Beall Center for Art and Technology will discuss the 
Center's mission and then lead the group on a tour of the current exhibition 
ALAVs 2.0 (Autonomous Light Air Vessels)

young artist, Jed Berk, who uses sensor and communication technologies to 
create "transitional species." As part of the Beall Center tour, the group will
