Hi everyone,
I do graphic design for a museum display company. I've recently been asked
to come up with a digital timeline for a historical museum. The timeline
needs to work on an iPad that will be sitting at a kiosk and powering a
display screen above it (just so the viewer can see what they're looking at
in a larger format). This timeline does not need any bells and whistles
(i.e., they don't really want it to be interactive because they want the
viewers to get the bulk of their info from the actual displays). They
essentially want the person to be able to scroll left and right to see a
visual progression of time periods that reflect the look of the graphics
established in the museum displays.

My question: What is the best format for creating a digital timeline?

I've briefly looked into ibooks author (but I don't think the book-page
format would work for this very well), a wide-format PDF, digital time-line
software and the technique of parallax scrolling in HTML. The latter seems
to be the nicest looking option but also seems like it might be extremely
complicated if you don't have a decent grasp of j-query and javascript (I
only know html and css). The time-line software might be a little limiting
in allowing customized design and looks like it requires a monthly
subscription, which is not something we need.

I'm new to the world of museum graphics so any help in this matter would be
greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
Emily
