Marla, some time ago, i did a preliminary analysis of a year's worth of search log data from the Guggenheim Museum, in preparation for some search term analysis that we are doing now within the context of steve.museum
there's a summary blog posting here: http://conference.archimuse.com/blog/jtrant/searching_museum_collections_on_line_what_do_peo with a link to the full paper. follow-up discussions with Seb Chan about the Powerhouse Museum's searching showed that there seems to be differences depending on the kind of museum. for example, there is a strong reliance on artists' names at the Guggenheim that may not be true outside [modern?] art museums. the study was time-consuming, but it revealed a lot about what people hope to find. i hope others share what they are doing here. there's not a lot published. jennifer At 11:07 AM -0700 7/7/08, Misunas, Marla wrote: >Hi everyone, > > > >I've started analyzing the data we're getting from our website search >engine, Atomz. > >I have two sample quarters of results and am looking forward to seeing >what we get when we > >switch to our new website later this year. > > > >At present I have the top ten or twenty terms in each of several major >categories > >and would love to know more about what others are doing. > > > >If you are tracking search terms, how is the data provided-is it tallied >for you or > >is the analysis labor intensive?
