Digital Assets Manager

The Historic New Orleans Collection

 

Location:        533 Royal St., New Orleans, La. 70130-2179

Hours:             40 hours per week, Monday through Friday

Position:

Reports to the director of systems and is responsible for coordinating 
workflows in conjunction with the collection information system, (MINT) and 
digital asset management software, (Extensis Portfolio) used by The Collection 
for all digital and multimedia formats including digital video and digital 
audio assets.  Specifies and coordinates the application of, appropriate 
descriptive, administrative, technical and preservation metadata for digitized 
and born-digital content managed by the institution.  The successful candidate 
will work with staff to create formal digital imaging and lifecycle management 
policies and procedures for all THNOC digital and multimedia assets.  The 
digital assets manager will support and train staff in the use of digital asset 
management software.  The position is responsible for ensuring that existing 
files are retrospectively brought into compliance with set standards, and 
linking files with matching item records within the collection information 
system.  The digital assets manager works with the systems network manager on 
digital storage needs, configuration and backups.

The digital assets manager will also work with staff to plan and implement 
digital initiatives involving our holdings and works with the manager of 
internet and interactive development to incorporate these initiatives into our 
website and exhibitions.  As a member of the systems department the digital 
assets manager will also be expected to assist with other systems department 
duties and functions as required.

Qualifications:

*       An advanced degree in archives, library information science, 
preservation, or IT.
*       Three years' relevant institutional expertise.
*       Excellent knowledge of digital standards, and best practices.
*       Ability to use PHP scripting language and knowledge of SQL.
*       Evidence of previous use of XML and related standards in previous 
projects.
*       Information Technology skills including familiarity with standard 
desktop productivity tools, effective data management practices, and the 
ability to communicate IT concepts to co-workers of varying levels of technical 
ability.
*       Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact effectively 
with others.
*       Ability to work on a variety of projects simultaneously.
*       Experience with Extensis Portfolio and CONTENTdm a plus.
