Dear Mia,

Shelley Mannion, a graduate student at the University of Lugano, has been
funded by the Rubin Foundation to do a study of tagging of Tibetan artworks
by members of Tibetan communities in Zurich and New York. The Zurich taggers
are tagging in German; the New York community members will tag in English.
Shelley has developed a project-specific skin for the steve tagger to
support her research, and translated all of the tagger interface materials
into German.

Shelley shares a particular interest with many of the members of the steve
team in how tagging may reveal differences in perceptions of works of art
(and bring to light pockets of previously untapped expert cultural
knowledge) in communities with a cultural affinity for an artwork. She has
promised, once she finishes some pressing work, to share the preliminary
methodology and results of her research with the steve discuss list (if
you're not subscribed to that list, I urge you to join the discussion; the
list is available in a digest format, and in any event is not usually to
burdensome: http://www.steve.museum/mailman/listinfo/discuss).

Best,
Susan
