A volunteer who has been working on tagging projects with me this summer
created an account and tagged images on steve today. She chose to enter terms
in Spanish, possibly to change things up from the other projects we have been
working on, or to test her knowledge. In the future, it might be interesting to
study foreign language terms submitted by people for whom that language is
their primary language. If the language a tagger spoke at home as child is not
the one they learned in school, or vice versa, and that could effect the
grammar or spelling of the foreign term.

She also thought that as soon as she selected Spanish as her preferred tagging
language, the page should have reset to Spanish language instructions.

Please do try and tag in languages other than English!

The tagger software is language agnostic; it will accept terms in any language.

We're also very interested in exploring the implications of
foreign-language terms in the tag set. Indeed, some hope that tagging
might be a way to provide alternative language access to collections.

best,

jennifer
