Ari,

Take a look at www.vitalsignsme.org. This is a citizen science invasive
species observation site we created recently for the Gulf of Maine Research
Institute. This project includes all those functions you described and a few
more. Teams of students get digital cameras, GPSs and other field data
collection tools as part of this project.

Specifically this page of the site shows a summary of photos & observations
submitted by 7th & 8th grade students, teachers and volunteers around Maine:
http://vitalsignsme.com/explore/search

This page displays the selected data on a Google Map:
http://vitalsignsme.org/explore/map

You can use the Advanced Search on the top right of the map to filter the
data set.

This page displays data in a table where you can select & filter data for
export to Excel or a statistical analysis program.

More info about the project at http://drupal.org/node/694998

I'm happy to share more info with you about our experience rolling this out
onto the laptops of the 35,000 Maine middle school students and teachers. So
far its been a great success.
