The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, founded in 1933, is recognized nationally and 
internationally as one of America's finest encyclopaedic art museums.  The 
Nelson-Atkins serves the community by providing access and insight into its 
renowned collection of more than 33,500 art objects and is best known for its 
Asian art, European and American paintings, and modern sculpture.  Housing a 
major research library and the Ford Learning Center, the museum is a key

The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art is currently seeking an Associate Registrar, 
Collections to join its exemplary collections management team.



The Associate Registrar, Collections provides support to the Chief Registrar by 
implementing the Museum's collections management policies and procedures with 
primary responsibility for duties related to incoming loans, acquisitions, and 
collection inventory projects.  The position ensures continuity of collections 
care and facilitates the maintenance of the highest standards in the 
stewardship of the Museum's collections.



Duties include:



Determining appropriate methods of packing and shipping for incoming loans and 
new acquisitions; selecting shippers; coordinating arrangements with shippers, 
lenders, donors, and vendors; working with preparators to oversee truck 
unloading and loading; coordinating unpacking, packing, and condition reporting 
with preparators and conservators; taking digital images; preparing incoming 
and outgoing receipts, loan agreements, deeds of gift, and check requests; 
corresponding with donors, lenders, and vendors; assigning loan and accession 
numbers; determining appropriate methods and applying accession numbers to 
works of art; inputting information about incoming loans, new acquisitions, and 
deaccessions in TMS collections management system; creating and maintaining 
accession, deaccession, and incoming loan files; annually renewing long-term 
loans; working with registration and preparation staff to plan and implement 
inventory projects; administering art movement forms; inputting location 
information in TMS; proofing object information for wall labels; coordinating 
reporting of American Indian art acquisitions in compliance with NAGPRA 
regulations; working on in-house exhibitions; responding to verbal and written 
collection inquiries; and serving as courier as needed.



JOB REQUIREMENTS:



Must have a Bachelor's degree (Master's preferred) in art history or related 
field; five years of museum registration experience, preferably in an art 
museum; strong time management, organizational, planning, problem-solving, and 
verbal/written communication and computer skills (TMS and Microsoft Office 
experience preferred); be detail-oriented, accurate, and flexible; and have the 
ability to manage multiple priorities, work well individually and as part of a 
team, and work with diverse staff, donors, lenders and vendors.
