Exhibition Design and Installation
(HA488K)<http://www.uvcs.uvic.ca/Course/Exhibition-Design-and-Installation/HA488K/>
November 18-23, 2012; on-campus offering

Since exhibitions are the public face of your museum they should inspire
powerful visitor experiences that convey your institution's mission and
philosophy. This intensive course examines planning, designing, fabricating,
and installing interpretive exhibitions that encourage museum visitors'
understanding, participation, and emotional engagement. Field work, team

showcase with an interactive element provide you with opportunities to build
exhibition planning and design skills. You will consider:
* The evolution and roles of exhibitions
*      visitor needs and characteristics
* managing the creative process: what are responsibilities of the team?
What are the phases of the schedule?
* critiquing exhibitions: what makes a successful exhibition?
* presenting objects and ideas: communicating through stories
* design tools: communicating your concepts, controlling traffic flow, the
importance of sight lines, rhythm, color, texture, and lighting
* the power of graphics: wall text and design
* testing it: peer review, visitor feedback - before, during, remedial
* choosing media: current trends vs. traditional values
