Dear colleagues,

Further to this thread on the implementation and extension of Digital Asset
Management systems for use in cultural heritage institutions, I wanted to draw
your attention to some work we have been doing in Europe to extend the SPECTRUM
Collections Management Standard to encompass DAMS integration.

SPECTRUM Digital Asset Management is an extension to the core SPECTRUM
workflows which shows how DAMS processes, metadata and quality-control can be
aligned to or managed within more traditional Collections Management Systems.

The core SPECTRUM DAM documentation is available from
http://www.collectionstrust.org.uk/spectrum/spectrum-digital-asset-management
and there is also a page of supporting materials (including a 'How to' guide on
selecting and implementing a DAMS for museums) at
http://www.collectionstrust.org.uk/spectrum/spectrum-dam-resources.

A core element of SPECTRUM DAM is working with museums to assess and make
better use of the DAMS functionality within their existing Collections
Management Systems, since there is often an existing strong relationship with a
trusted provider and there is less risk of duplicating functions between the
DAMS and the CMS. To support this, we have extended the SPECTRUM Partner Scheme
to create a new SPECTRUM DAM Partner Scheme, which provides a listing of DAMS
and CMS providers that have a proven track-record of implementation and
integration into museum systems.

Information about the SPECTRUM DAM Partners Scheme and the current members is
available from
http://www.collectionstrust.org.uk/spectrum/spectrum-dam-partners.

All best, and I hope this is a useful update.

Perian,

I am an aspiring DAM manager and new to this list - I would love to learn more
about how institutions are integrating and extending their DAM systems. Can you
post the information you receive regarding your inquiry below?

Thanks,

A question for those of you who've implemented a digital asset management
system at your institution or elsewhere...

I'm trying to find or generate a list of digital asset management features that
are specific to museums, libraries, and archives. All DAMS deliver a pretty
core set of functions, but I'd like to know how you're extending these software
packages to suit the needs of cultural institutions. These features might
include internal and external uses and reflect either stand-alone or integrated
installations.

Please feel free to reply to me offlist. Thanks,

~P
