Director of Information Technology
Anticipating its 50th anniversary in 2016, the Asian Art Museum is 
creating an exciting vision for the next 50 years. Central to the vision 
is the role and application of technology not only to improve the museum’s 
internal systems but also to enrich the visitor experience.

The Asian Art Museum offers a unique, compelling opportunity for a highly 
skilled and experienced professional to provide leadership for the 
museum’s strategic technology vision.  The Director of Information 
Technology will drive a Technology Transformation Plan to develop, 
implement, and sustain a technology infrastructure which addresses current 
needs as well as planned growth in scale and sophistication. 

The Director of IT will work closely with the museum’s management team, 
board committees, digital engagement team, and a variety of subject matter 
experts across the museum to understand needs and identify, recommend, 
develop, implement, and support cost-effective technology solutions for 
all aspects of this dynamic arts institution.  The Director will lead a 
team of 3 and report to the Chief Financial Officer.

The ideal candidate will have outstanding technical expertise coupled with 
creativity, drive, passion, and integrity.  S/he will have the ability to 
build a positive and successful customer service culture, and manage in a 
manner that promotes communication, collaboration, and innovation.

Currently the museum’s IT department supports 150 desktop users as part of 
the maintaining and providing for departmental systems (such as 
admissions, finance, fundraising, security, etc), and telecommunications. 
The system architecture consists of:

·       IBM Blade Center and X-Series servers, IBM SAN storage
·       Operating Systems: Microsoft Windows Servers, Active Directory, 
Microsoft SQL Server, and VMware ESX.
·       Virtualized servers and desktops using VMware software: ESX, and 
View 
·       VoIP (voice over IP) telephone systems
·       Video Surveillance systems, Art Security RFID systems, access 
control systems
·       Microsoft Office Desktop applications 
·       Microsoft Office 365 collaboration and messaging
·       Various in-house and cloud-based business applications including 
The Raiser’s Edge, The Museum System, Sage/Abila Accounting, Igloo 
Intranet

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
·       Bachelor’s degree, ideally in computer science, technology, 
engineering, or information systems
·       Seven (7) years of verifiable experience working in an IT 
department that supports many functional departments; at least three (3) 
years should include IT managerial and leadership accountabilities for an 
organization or a large department; or an equivalent combination of 
education, training, and experience; nonprofit experience a plus
·       Experience must include: implementing and supporting LAN 
infrastructure; packaged software selection and implementation to support 
a broad range of functional activities; project management; creating and 
managing IT department and project budgets; staff supervision and 
development. Experience with applications used by museum, educational, 
cultural, or related institutions is highly desirable 
·       Solid knowledge and experience with cloud service vendor 
management including selection, contract and SLA negotiation
·       Strong technical knowledge in IT operations; systems development 
and maintenance; technical and operational problem solving; systems 
design; data processing methods
·       Ability to effectively manage complex and diverse technology 
projects that improve organizational efficiency and internal user and 
external customer experience; serve as technology operations expert on 
projects.
·       Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with 
museum staff, management, donors, peers, vendors, and others
·       Ability to manage confidential material with absolute trust and 
integrity 
·       Outstanding organizational, collaboration, problem solving, and 
project management skills
·       Strong supervisory skills; excellent customer service skills; 
patience, creativity, and flexibility 
·       Excellent written, verbal, and active listening communication 
skills
·       Creative and innovative problem solver who balances user needs, 
technical considerations, and resource constraints
·       A goal-oriented person who takes initiative and perseveres through 
challenges with optimism and a positive attitude; demonstrates adeptness 
with limited budget and resources
·       Must be able to work occasional nights, weekends, holidays, and 
on-call for emergencies
