The California Special Interest Group of the Museum Computer Network invites
you to our annual Southern California 
members meeting, featuring the exciting work being done at the LA County
Museum of Art. Meet your colleagues and get the inside scoop about
"Collections Online" - sponsored by the Getty Grant Electronic 
Cataloguing Initiative. Delve into the Image management issues associated
with preparing 44,000 images for the web and placing 20,000 images online.

There is no charge for the day, and parking is free.  Participants will
need to provide their own meals & transportation; but to join us, you must

between Wilshire Blvd. and 6th Street. On the West side of the street. 
To get there: From the 10 freeway, take the Fairfax exit and go North, turn
right on Wilshire Blvd., turn left on Ogden. parking structure is halfway
down the street on the left.

parking in the staff lot] Morning meetings will be at LACMA West, afternoon
meetings will be held at LACMA East.

10:00   Diana Folsom, Manager of Art and Education Systems, and Renee'
Montgomery, Assistant Director of Collections, our hostesses for the day,
will present the Getty Grant-funded project: Collections On-line.  Visit the

where pre-determined browses and make-your-own searches return information
on objects and their related library holdings.

11:30    Optional short visit to nearby DoubleVision Gallery, where we can
view paintings by Diana Folsom (one of our hostesses) and her partner,
William Matthews (in the room behind the main gallery). (their official show

1:30    Photographic Services: Image capture tour featuring the Sinarcam
camera with Volare digital back (a 3-shot digital camera)
2:00    Scanning Department tour
2:30    General discussion of image management - starting with LACMA's
experience: with Carol Dyrek, Applications Systems Manager; John Stalder,
Digital Archive Manager, and Peter Brenner, Manager of Photographic
Services.  Presenters will discuss imaging
processes, LTS and Portfolio, LACMA's management systems for 70,000 
records, 44,000 images, 150,000 library records and related issues of
maintaining their many complex, interoperable systems.
