Hello Californians and Californians-at-heart, For those of you who are planning to come to the Museum Computer Network's annual meeting in Toronto next week, I would like to point out sessions being sponsored by the California SIG:
Thursday, 3:30-4:30 pm Digital Asset Management: Solutions and the Intersection of Multiple Systems This session will explore managing digital assets using several in-house and off-the-shelf systems, relating the assets to collections management systems, and bi-lingual, multi-institution solutions for asset management. Our speakers will be Judith Tomlin, Canadian Museum of Civilization; and Guenter Waibel, Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive. We will focus on solutions rather than the ABC's of metadata (other sessions do that quite well), and will have ample time for your participation. Friday, 2:30-3:30 pm Harder, Longer, Smarter: How to Make Digitized Collections Meet Evolving Needs The ways in which image databases, often available 24/7, are used by diverse internal and external audiences can place new demands on many levels of staff. This session explores the anticipation and meeting of demand, and the need to educate staff and the public with respect to expectations and responsibilities. The speakers are Mary Elings, University of California, and Snowden Becker, Getty Institute. CAL SIG Meeting Friday at 4:00 pm Meet in the hotel lobby at 4 (look for the inflatable sun) and retire elsewhere to plan next year's events. --- You are currently subscribed to mcn_mcn-l as: [email protected] To unsubscribe send a blank email to [email protected]
