Hi CAL SIG members!
March 1 is the deadline for proposals for our November conference in Las Vegas
this year, "Balancing Museum Technology and Transformation." Various
committees and the MCN Board are working to plan an outstanding conference for
you this year. We need your help in putting together panels that will educate
delegates and stimulate fruitful discussions. This year, why not propose a
panel showcasing projects you and your colleagues are working on, or propose a
panel on a topic you'd like to know more about yourself--it's the best way to
contact the experts and learn. Just because you aren't the expert doesn't mean
you can't moderate and help others share their experiences.

The call for proposals:

Be sure to add "Sponsored by CAL SIG" to your abstract.

In our meeting at Stanford last fall, some of the topics/ideas proposed were
the following:
Digital Rights Management (potential partnership with IP and/or Digital SIG)
Collaborations with ARLIS, VRA--how about putting together a panel that will
work for
both conferences?
Urban Archeology computer modeling (MAIM)
Software Emulation/Preserving Data on Old Computers
California Digital Library Access Projects (representatives from different
aspects or maybe do a session with someone from the Colorado Digital
Library)--MOAC, Histopo, etc. How are usability issues being handled?
Cal Cultures Project, gearing up to do the digitizing for the 9 campus project
San Jose/Santa Clara Valley LSTA grant to digitize SC Valley history materials,
A.P. Hill Collection, Pueblo Papers, different institutions working together to
fill in the gaps
Creating a Database via Consortium

And don't forget about workshops we said we wanted: digitizing large format
materials, GIS, grant writing.

Organize, moderate, speak. There are lots of opportunities to get involved and
help continue to make MCN the best source for information about museums &
technology.

Feel free to call or email if you have an idea but aren't sure where to go with
it, want to discuss potential speakers, or any other issues.

See you in Vegas!
