RARIN OPEN FORUM 

AAM Registrars Committee Rights & Reproductions Information Network
(RARIN) 
Tuesday, May 20, 2003 6:00 - 7:30 PM 
Portland, Oregon - DoubleTree Hotel - Sellwood Room 

Several of us met together to discuss a variety of topics relating to
issues of rights & reproductions, permissions. The forum was led by
Vanessa Burkhart, Registrar, Indianapolis Museum of Art and Ruth
Roberts, Rights & Reproductions Coordinator, Indianapolis Museum of Art.


Highlights are as follows: 

-----visited several websites - focused on the recently updated RARIN
website: http://www.panix.com/%7Esquigle/rarin/01rcsite.html 
& IUPUI - Copyright Management site: http://copyright.iupui.edu/ 

-----reviewed the 2003 AAM activities: the Open Forum, Registrar's
Marketplace, RC business lunch, session sponsored by us: Protecting
Museum Images in the Digital Age, panel led by Liesl Dana, National
Museum of African Art 

-----discussion of RARIN survey on rights & reproduction fees and
procedures - presently on RARIN website - also to be mailed to 700
member museums - results to be analyzed this year and presented at next
year's AAM meeting in New Orleans 

-----goals for 2004 AAM (in addition to survey results): 
------------------·program session on determining & researching the
ownership of copyright 
------------------·presentation of outline for a rights & reproductions
handbook 

We would love to hear from any of you who would like to VOLUNTEER to
organize a program/session for next year and/or create a suggested
