Just received this notification re: TOP authorization in jeopardy. -----Original Message----- From: Brian Komar [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Wednesday, July 30, 2003 5:41 PM To: Susan Patterson Subject: TOP RED ALERT!!
July 30, 2003 Dear Susan: We were just informed that Sen. John Sununu (R-NH) will offer an amendment to eliminate the Technology Opportunities Program (TOP) authorization during the Senate Commerce Committee's consideration of S. 1478, The National Telecommunications and Information Administration Reauthorization Act of 2003. S. 1478, The National Telecommunications and Information Administration Reauthorization Act of 2003, introduced by Chairman John McCain (R-AZ) and Senator Ernest Hollings (D-SC), authorizes NTIA's TOP program for 5 years, beginning in FY04 at $15.862 million. Please contact Republican members of the Senate Commerce Committee immediately and urge them to oppose Sen. Sununu's attempts to eliminate TOP. Contact information for the Senators is located at http://commerce.senate.gov/about/membership.html. In addition, please send your grassroots activists an alert or send them to the alert we've created on civilrights.org located at http://ga3.org/campaign/savetop. Thanks very much for your immediate attention to this matter.
