Hi, everyone:
With our Minneapolis conference coming up in two days, the annual MCN
Silent Auction soon will be under way. The auction benefits our
nonprofit organization of professionals dedicated to fostering the
cultural aims of museums through the use of computer technologies. It
also offers a venue for entertaining--and sometimes entertainingly
intense--bidding wars among colleagues....
Your generous contribution of auction items helps MCN offer the
programs and resources we all find so useful. Now's the time to pack
whatever you've been thinking of giving--or to dream up some novel or
extravagant donation--to take to the conference, where items will be
gratefully accepted in person.
Donations already pledged include 3D image scanning services (50
hours of work, valued at $10,000); two 1/2-price registrations for
Museums and the Web 2005; the catalog for the Roy Lichtenstein
exhibition "All About Art"; the book _Cartographica Extraordinaire_;
bags, mugs, and other items with institutional logos; and other fine
lots. Exhibition catalogues are ever-popular; equally great are
museum clothing and other souvenirs. Items of any sort--new or old,
large or small, seriously useful or utterly frivolous--that may be
attractive to bidders (and carried by airline passengers) are
encouraged.
Donations may be dropped off at the registration desk when you
register for the conference, but no later than noon on Thursday (and
the earlier, the better; this year's auction begins at our Wednesday
reception and wraps up with mid-afternoon festivities on Thursday).

regarding Silent Auction bidding and pickup hours.
Looking forward to seeing many of you this week!
