Job Announcement: Webmaster

30 hours per week

The Oakland Museum of California, as "the museum of California," provides
exemplary collections, exhibitions, and educational services in ways that
generate wider public understanding of California's environment, history,
and art. Museum activities are responsive, accessible, and relevant to the
public, including school children, teachers, scholars, the immediate
Oakland and Bay Area communities, and an increasingly diverse California
population.

We are currently seeking a webmaster who is strong on both design and
development. The webmaster will maintain the current OMCA website with the
highest possible quality, navigational ease and consistency in look and
feel for the museum's website. The webmaster must be able to create,
promote and encourage clean, professional, appealing designs for online web
projects. Must be knowledgeable in and able to keep abreast of current and
developing trends in web and museum technologies, with an eye on long-term
planning.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

*Maintain and update internet and intranet sites

*Guide and advise staff on web-related projects and issues

*Monitor and analyze website traffic and initiate changes to site based on
conclusions

*Facilitate technical and content objectives for website needs and projects

*Maintain monthly email newsletter campaign

*Maintain web access to ecommerce (online store & ticket sales)

*Database/query driven calendar online data entry and maintenance

Qualification Standards

*3-5 years in web design, with experience in marketing, advertising or
nonprofits

*Bachelor's degree or equivalent desirable

*Strong written and oral communication skills

*Solid understanding of web technologies

*HTML, Dreamweaver, Photoshop (advanced level)

*Familiarity with latest Macintosh OS9 & OSX; and PC Windows XP

*Strong visual and graphic design experience and an effective aesthetics
sensibility

*Experience with Content Management Systems desirable

Helpful

*Knowledge of MYSQL, PERL, PHP & XML

*Experience with HTML Email campaign practices

*Experience supporting and maintaining Linux server a plus

*Flash experience

*Knowledge of and experience working with best practices in Information
Architecture and User Interface design

*Ability to self-manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines
