Richard and MCN subscribers,

I'm an exhibit technology and learning experience developer. I've been
involved with developing several games for museums and science centers and
just returned from an interesting conference in Washington, the Serious
Games Summit (www.seriousgamessummit.com). Some very relevant and
provocative presentations, discussions and projects for the museum
community. Also, the National Academy of Science and the Marian Koshland
Science Museum is holding an internal seminar on the subject today with
which Debra Lieberman (http://www.comm.ucsb.edu/lieberman_flash.htm) from
UCSB and others are involved.

I'd be happy to share some of my observations from the Summit and my
experience in developing learning games for museums. More info about our
work is at www.xhibit.net.

Subject: Games in Museums

Dear MCN folk,

I am currently conducting some research related to the use of computer games
in museum settings. I have been able to identify a number of articles that
describe the challenges of integrating games and game-like interactives into
exhibits and online presentation of our collections, but the literature is
somewhat thin and hasn't always taken the latest developments into
consideration.

This has left me with a number of unanswered questions about where we as a
community get our information about how and why people play games and why we
think it is a successful method for reaching out to our audiences.

I am interested in hearing from colleagues who have participated in computer
game/interactive development for their institutions, particularly if you
would be willing to share storyboards, white papers or other documentation
that outlines your development process.

Feel free to contact me off-list or at the MCN conference next week to
discuss further.
