Another interesting article on lifespan and brand-based testing of CD-R media is  http://www.uni-muenster.de/Forum-Bestandserhaltung/downloads/iraci.pdf The study is somewhat incomplete in that it doesn't cite the specific type of cd's manufacturers, only the retail brand names. Otherwise, it is a really interesting study.
