Douglas,
The 2003 paper
DIGITIZATION IN THE NORTHERN NEW YORK LIBRARY NETWORK http://www.nnyln.org/NNYLN09232003.pdf
lists many digitization/cataloguing vendors in the back of the report.
There's also a reference to Cornell Library's paper on in-house vs. outsourcing which has a project management checklist and many other ideas if you are outsourcing.

One vendor, the Electronic Scriptorium, is working on a major scanning/cataloguing project with the New York Daily News so you can probably pop down and visit.

Subject: Vendors for Archival Digitization Projects
I assume that many of us are increasingly involved with projects that require the digitization of analog formats for archival purposes, typically including the need to provide at least some cataloguingÊfor each asset.Ê
Ê
My question to the list:Ê Has anyone found a vendor with whom they have been able to work successfully on such projects?Ê I am most-interested in the following:
- consistent quality of the digitization efforts
- quality and accuracy of the attendant cataloguing
- quality of the project management skills of the vendor
- costs
Ê
(In brief, the next project on the table here is relatively straightforward: scanning paper records - index cards from a large card-catalog - keying in catalog information to identify each new digital asset,Êdelivering the project on-time and on-budget).
Ê
While IÊunderstand that most of us are unable by policyÊto "endorse" particular vendors, I am still interested in a few leads so that I canÊdescribe the project to a few vendorsÊand then evaluate their proposed solutions.
Ê
Thank you,
Douglas Hegley
