Digital Archivist

The Computer History Museum (CHM) in Mountain View, California, invites 
applications and nominations for a Digital Archivist, responsible for 
developing and maintaining a software repository for the CHM. The successful 
candidate will create a useful architecture for today that scales into the 
future for access by tomorrows scholars and contributors. This newly created 
position is part of a growing and unique institution dedicated to the 
preservation of information technology and its impact on the human experience. 

 Responsibilities
The Digital Archivist assumes leadership for developing near-term and long-term 
strategies for the growth, management and preservation of the CHM software 
collection and related digital assets. The Digital Archivist will: design and 
shepherd a robust and innovative web-based software repository, which includes 
the CHMs current holdings as well as contributions from outside individuals and 
communities. Work closely with CHM volunteers, artifact donors and committees. 
Seek regional, national and international partnerships. Design, document and 
implement processes and procedures to insure proper cataloguing and 
preservation of the software collection.

Qualifications:
Required: Advanced degree in computing, information or library science. 

Preferred: 
Minimum of three years of responsibility and accomplishment in digital 
repository management or similar work. Familiarity with digital asset 
management tools, metadata standards and capturing a wide variety of digital 
formats. Ability to build and sustain a volunteer-based community. Knowledge of 
web-based community tools. Ability to plan, coordinate and implement complex 
projects. Excellent communication skills with an aptitude for complex 
analytical work.  Knowledge and/or experience with intellectual property 
issues. Interest and/or knowledge of software history.
