Please excuse any cross-postings
We are pleased to announce that the Visual Resources Association Foundation
(VRAF) has been awarded a grant from the Samuel H. Kress Foundation to fund the
VRAF Regional Workshop Program. This new pilot program is dedicated to
providing localized education and professional development opportunities in
visual resources and image management.
The VRAF regional workshop program will provide an immersive experience on a
single topic, framed in a manner that is relevant to image management
professionals, image users, and the broader information community. The Visual
Resources Association (VRA) Chapters, VRA affiliates, related organizations,
and academic institutions with information management programs will be
encouraged to apply for the grants. The fee-based workshops will be available
to anyone who would like to attend. With these grants, host institutions will
be able to offer a workshop without the burden of developing it from within,
and provide valuable programming not only to their local constituents, but to
their broader region. This program will allow the VRAF to more fully realize
its mission to promote scholarship, research, education, and outreach in the
visual resources field.
To implement the VRAF Workshop Program, the VRAF has established a committee
consisting of VRAF Directors, a representative from the VRA Education
Committee, and a representative from a related professional organization. The
committee includes VRAF Directors Christine Hilker, Ian McDermott, and Betha
Whitlow; VRA Education Committee member Marlene Gordon; and VRA, Art Libraries
Society of North America (ARLIS/NA), and Museum Computer Network (MCN) member
Maureen Burns. The implementation process is underway, and additional
announcements about the VRAF Regional Workshop program will soon be forthcoming.
The Kress grant programs http://www.kressfoundation.org/grants/main/ support
scholarly projects that promote the appreciation, interpretation, preservation,
study and teaching of European Art from antiquity to the early 19th century. We
are grateful to the Samuel H. Kress Foundation for their generous support of
this important new opportunity.
