I do a bit of work on OSM in New Zealand but haven't yet done anything for indoors. I'm not sure OSM is really the right tool for the job although there have been several attempts - http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Indoor_Mapping#Projects
Since I last checked the IndoorGML spec has been published which looks interesting - http://indoorgml.net. In terms of delivery of maps MapBox seem to be the only ones doing interesting open source stuff and storage in MBTiles seems like the way to go. I would be interested to see where you get with your project. Feel free to ping me offline.
