The Yale Center for British Art seeks a Head of Information Technology as a key
member of the Center’s senior team dedicated to transforming online access and
research in British Art, working closely with other major collections of
British Art and study centers in the field, particularly the Center’s sister
institution, the Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art, London. The
Yale Center for British Art holds the largest collection of British art outside
the United Kingdom, and collaborates internationally on research projects and
innovative technical solutions to support them. The Center seeks to continue to
be a leader in the provision of open access to images and the development of
linked open data solutions to enable a more efficient and sustainable research
environment.

The Head of IT provides research computing support to the Center by keeping
abreast of emerging technologies for the dissemination of collections data. In
collaboration with other departments at the Center, the Head of IT supports and
develops an information architecture that allows collection-based datasets to
be efficiently shared with online users, and programmatically contributed to
data aggregators and the Semantic Web.

This position currently manages two direct reports who provide overall
technical support and system administration for TMS (the Museum System), and
indirectly manages one desktop support specialist. It is envisioned that the
successful candidate for Head of IT will redefine the scope and
responsibilities of the YCBA IT staff. This position will also assist the
Deputy Director for Finance and Administration with managing technical services
provided by Yale ITS. The staff of the following departments will be key
internal contacts to the Head of IT: Collections Information and Access,
Library and Archives, Public Relations, and Imaging Services.
