Hi Jenn, You may find <http://blogs.loc.gov/digitalpreservation/2013/08/analysis-of-current-digital-preservation-policies-archives-libraries-and-museums/> this <http://blogs.loc.gov/digitalpreservation/2013/08/analysis-of-current-digital-preservation-policies-archives-libraries-and-museums/> post (2013) helpful, from the The Signal blog at the Library of Congress. The author analyzes components of digital preservation and archival policies from various libraries, archives, and museums and creates a list of links to available polices on the web.
There's also a policy list available from the SCAPE project here<http://wiki.opf-labs.org/display/SP/Published+Preservation+Policies> which seems to be more recently updated. This list is more library/archives focused, but I find that the basic concepts translate well enough. We're working this year to formulate/finalize guidelines ourselves... generally, I've found the NDSA's Levels of Digital Preservation<http://www.digitalpreservation.gov/ndsa/activities/levels.html> and the SPOT model<http://www.dlib.org/dlib/september12/vermaaten/09vermaaten.html> helpful for current programmatic assessments and future policy planning, along with repository guidelines such as OAIS<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open_Archival_Information_System> and TRAC<https://www.crl.edu/sites/default/files/d6/attachments/pages/trac_0.pdf>. I'd be happy to chat or compare strategies offline if you'd like. Re: digital file archiving (Amalyah Keshet) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello - Does anyone out in the MCN community have a digital file archiving policy and/or strategy they can share? We have a ridiculous amount of data, plenty from many years ago that does not need to be available on a daily basis but should be kept for historical purposes. How have other small/medium-sized museums handled this issue? I would appreciate any thoughts or guidance on how best to manage years worth of exhibition materials and photos. Thanks!
