About Us


The Historic Sites and Museums Branch is comprised of 15 interpretive centers, 
historic sites and museums throughout Alberta, offering a diverse 
representation of the province's heritage. We are seeking a versatile 
technician with experience in audio-visual and museum exhibits support.

Reporting to the Manager of Creative Services, the Audio-Visual & Exhibit 
Technician provides services to the Branch. As a team member, you will apply 
your manual abilities/skills and knowledge of museums presentation systems to 
ensure the best possible experience for our visitors for the northern museums 
and historic sites.



Role


As the successful candidate, you will be responsible for maintaining the 
exhibits and systems in museums and historic sites located in the northern 
region. You will work on lighting system and lighting design for exhibits, 
maintaining supplies/equipment inventory and manage the Branch audio-visual 
library of resources. You will demonstrate your agility and your creative 
problem solving skills by both troubleshooting current exhibits and 
retrofitting new exhibits within the current infrastructure. You will also 
support projects and design teams in the development and production of new 
exhibits.

To succeed in this role, you will need to have strong time management skills, 
as this position supports many different locations. Additionally, you will be 
required to develop creative solutions and be able to work independently in a 
client service environment. This position shares responsibility for the safety 
and security of museum objects, display assets and for that of our visitors.



Qualifications


Post-secondary credentials or technical certificate along with relevant 
experience in exhibit maintenance and production, supplemented by related 
courses and (2) two years of related experience is required. A Class 5 driver's 
license is also required. Knowledge of proper museum lighting techniques, media 
presentation system, electronic and electrical systems combined with knowledge 
of construction and fabrication methods as well as experience working with hand 
and power tools is required. Working knowledge of Operational Health & Safety 
along with exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both written and 
verbal, is required. Ability to work some weekends and evenings, as is the 
ability to travel beyond Edmonton and overnight on occasion, as projects and 
tasks require. Post-secondary education in theatre production, electronics or a 
trade will be considered as an asset. Forklift certification, personal 
hydraulic lift operation, fabrication and electrical systems design experience 
as well as museum experience will also be considered as an asset. Equivalencies 
will be considered.



Salary


$1,772.38 to $2,263.10 bi-weekly (~$46,259 to $59,067 annually)
