Manager, Collections Database (Ref: 15085R1) (based in Hong Kong)


A cornerstone of the West Kowloon Cultural District, M+ is Hong Kong's new 
museum for visual culture, encompassing twentieth and twenty-first century art, 
design and architecture, and moving image from Hong Kong, China, Asia, and 
beyond.

Since 2012, M+ has been presenting diverse public programmes and exhibitions, 
and is amassing a permanent collection, in the run-up to the scheduled 2019 
public opening of the museum building designed by Herzog & de Meuron with TFP 
Farrells and Ove Arup & Partners HK.


In July 2016, M+'s public programmes and exhibitions will move into the M+ 
Pavilion, a 300 sq.ft. exhibition space located in the District that will act 
as its primary site until the opening of the museum in 2019.
You are responsible for:
-          assisting with the implementation of workflows and processes in TMS, 
playing a key role within the M+ team and liaising with other parties as 
necessary;
-          managing the daily operations of the TMS application and database 
including monitoring availability, usage, faults and performance at various 
user locations;
-          working with users to improve working methods and systems by leading 
the Data Standards Working group and maintaining TMS procedures and data 
standard manuals;
-          supporting users by providing training, advice, responding to 
queries and resolving issues;
-          developing reports, custom list views and data views as required by 
the M+ team;
-          managing a data monitoring programme, help importing and updating 
large sets of data and performing sample-based monitoring of data input; and
-          acting as a main point of contact for the Information and 
Communications Technology department and Marketing and Customer Experience 
department (web page) on all database related issues.

You should:
-          possess a recognised university degree or equivalent;
-          preferably have 5 years of experience in using a collections 
management system;
-          have experience of the processes and procedures involved in a range 
of collections management activities (cataloguing, location recording, 
acquisitions, loans in and out, managing exhibitions and displays, etc.);
-          have experience of working on collections documentation in a museum, 
art gallery or similar organisation;
-          preferably have some experience of analysing users' requirements and 
creating reports using Crystal Reports;
-          have experience with TMS Access, SQL Server and knowledge of XSLT 
and XML is preferable;
-          have good understanding and appreciation of structured / systematic 
approaches to manage information;
-          have effective organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise 
own workload and meet deadlines; be able to demonstrate strong attention to 
details and have a flexible approach to work; and
-          possess excellent written and spoken English, and preferably in 
Chinese with the ability to liaise effectively with both internal and external 
parties.
